The power cord shall be a minimum of 5 feet long, measured from the base of the light, and shall be terminated in a three-prong plug. If the unit is double insulated, the power cord may be terminated in a two-prong plug. The cord shall enter the base through a strain-relief bushing. The cord and plug shall conform to Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc. (UL) 153. All other wiring and electrical components shall meet the applicable requirement of the UL. The light shall be tested for dielectic withstand and current leakage per UL 153 and UL 1262, respectively. Proof of compliance with UL requirements shall consist of UL listing of the item or a report from a nationally recognized testing laboratory showing compliance with the requirements of UL.
The light base shall be covered by a colored vinyl laminate or a brass, nickel, chromium, or cadmium plating. The interior of the reflector shall be painted white; the exterior shall be finished to match the base. All other parts of the light shall be either corrosion resisting, or shall be appropriately finished to resist corrosion.
Adequate strain relief shall be provided throughout the light assembly, effective in all positions of arm adjustment. Wire raceways shall be free of burrs and sharpness. All connections shall be firmly and securely made. Insulation shall be sound, with only essential stripping made for terminal connections.
Exposed metal surfaces of light shall not be bent, dented, or cracked. Exposed light surfaces shall not have burrs or sharpness, or be scratched or marred.
Workmanship. The desk light shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). Each light, with a lamp and two spares, as specified, constitutes one unit.
